The lawmaker representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Senator Saliu Mustapha, has launched a free medical outreach program to provide essential healthcare services to over 1,500 constituents.
The two-day program, which commenced over the weekend at Seriki Driver House, Ita-Adu, in Gambari Ward of Ilorin East Local Government Area, saw a large turnout of beneficiaries. The initiative, executed by a team of skilled medical professionals including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, offered a wide range of healthcare services such as consultations, drug distribution, and surgical procedures.
Speaking through his legislative aide, Alhaji Tunde Abdulkadir, Senator Mustapha highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare services to all parts of Kwara State.
“The medical outreach is designed to provide free healthcare services to over 1,500 people in Kwara Central Senatorial District,” he stated, encouraging constituents to take full advantage of the services.
The outreach, which also extends to Daudu Afon in Asa Local Government Area, will continue on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
Dr. Tijani Abdulrasheed, one of the medical professionals overseeing the outreach, detailed the three components of the program. “The first segment focuses on free medical consultations and essential drug provision. The second addresses vision impairments through free eye surgeries and corrective glasses, while the third focuses on surgical conditions such as hernias, breast lumps, hydroceles, and appendicitis,” he explained.
Dr. Abdulrasheed commended Senator Mustapha for prioritizing healthcare and urged him to sustain such impactful initiatives.
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed profound gratitude for the program. Abdulrahman Ramat, a patient who received medication, said, “I had been struggling to afford my medications, but here, I was treated and given free drugs. I’m deeply grateful to Senator Saliu Mustapha for this support.”
Similarly, Ibrahim Isiaq, who benefited from the free eye care, noted, “I’ve had eye problems for a long time, which even affected my education. Today, I received free glasses and medication. I thank Senator Mustapha for this healthcare initiative and pray for his success.”
The event also attracted key stakeholders, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and community leaders, who praised the initiative as a significant step in addressing healthcare challenges in Kwara Central.
