The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Balogun Ajikobi of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf Okunrinjeje.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman described the loss as devastating, noting that the late traditional leader’s passing has created a significant void in the emirate’s traditional institution.
“The death of Balogun Ajikobi, just six years after ascending the revered stool of his ancestors, is a big blow to the Ilorin Emirate. He was not only a respected kingmaker but also a custodian of our rich cultural heritage,” he said.
Reflecting on the legacy of the late Balogun, the NILDS DG praised him as a father figure in Ajikobi constituency, renowned for his humility, simplicity, and dedication to community service. “His reign brought about peace, unity, and development, leaving an indelible mark on his people,” he added.
Professor Sulaiman extended his condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as well as the other Baloguns, traditional leaders, and the entire Ilorin Emirate. He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the late Balogun Ajikobi eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and give his family and the Ajikobi community the strength to bear the loss.
