NIGER DELTA MINISTRY HOLDS WORKSHOP ON PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Dr. Shuaib Belgore OON, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Development (MNDD), has reaffirmed that the Performance Management System (PMS) is the new standard for evaluating civil servants for increased productivity and performance.

Dr. Belgore said this at a workshop for the ministry’s management and employees as a whole. The Human Resource Department and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) collaborated to arrange a two-day workshop that took place in Abuja on May 20 and 21, 2024, both in person and virtually.

As part of efforts to advance the Ministry towards the realization of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implemention Plan (FCSSIP) 2021 – 2025, which is intended to inspire the service into greater heights thereby prompting national development, the Permanent Secretary states that “it is expedient to organize the PMS workshop for all Management and Staff of the Ministry.”

In his remarks, he went on to say that performance management is a tool for monitoring and measuring the Ministerial Performance Scorecard, which consists of operational, presidential, and service-wide priorities. This will help the Departments and Units deliver Presidential Priorities, Key Result Areas, and Key Performance Indicators to each task.

“The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) mandates that the 2024 Annual Modern PMS for the Ministry begin with the process of cascading the objectives to the Departments and Units.”

“Let me clarify that PMS is here to stay. With the elimination of the APER System, PMS will now play a significant role in the promotion process,” he said.
