National Orientation Agency Launches Campaign to Rebuild Patriotism and National Values

In a bid to reignite national pride and foster unity, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at reinforcing the significance of Nigeria’s National Anthem and National Values Charter.

This campaign, announced during a press conference held on Tuesday, in Ilorin, is part of the government’s effort to address diminishing patriotism and loyalty to the state.

The Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu speaking through a representative, Kwara State Director of NOA Mr Olusegun Adeyemi stressed the importance of reorienting Nigerians, stating that the time has come to rebuild citizens’ sense of duty to the nation.

“We must build Nigerians to build Nigeria,” he quoted the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He emphasized that the campaign is focused on renewing citizens’ commitment to national unity, patriotism, and the values that bind the country together.

“The campaign will center on the National Anthem and the National Values Charter, both of which serve as pillars of the Nigerian identity.

According to the NOA, the National Anthem is not just a ceremonial song but a reflection of Nigeria’s struggles, aspirations, and commitment to justice and prosperity.

The National Values Charter outlines seven promises from the government to its citizens, including equality, peace, security, and meritocracy, while the citizens are expected to uphold values such as discipline, patriotism, and integrity.

The campaign will run from October to December 2024 and will involve various programs at state and local levels, including town hall meetings, school outreach initiatives, and community forums.

The NOA has called on the media, civil society organizations, and Nigerians in the diaspora to support the movement, stressing the role of each citizen in building a stronger and more united Nigeria.

“Let us sing the National Anthem with pride, understanding that it is a call to action for each of us to contribute to the building of a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria,” the agency added.
