The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has reaffirmed his dedication to people-centered service and community development.
Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with media professionals in Ilorin, Prof. Sulaiman highlighted his enduring contributions to public service and education.
He recounted how his unwavering commitment to teaching saw him work for seven years at the University of Abuja without receiving a salary.
“This experience taught me lessons in patience and perseverance,” he said. “I served as an examination officer without compromising my integrity despite being alienated. Eventually, my appointment was formalized, and I became the first Ilorin indigene to lecture at the University of Abuja.”
Reflecting on his tenure as Minister for National Planning under President Goodluck Jonathan, Prof. Sulaiman noted that within 10 months, he facilitated job opportunities for over 100 individuals from Kwara State.
He also disclosed that he quietly purchased and distributed over 700 JAMB forms to support students’ academic ambitions across the state.
Prof. Sulaiman hinted at his potential bid for the governorship of Kwara State in 2027, emphasizing his ambition to create meaningful development.
“My ambition is always to serve my people by deploying my knowledge to develop the state. Addressing joblessness and youth idleness is crucial for securing a brighter future for the younger generation,” he said.
While commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for advancing infrastructure development in the state, Prof. Sulaiman stressed the need to sustain these gains beyond 2027 through urban renewal and strategic governance.
Boasting extensive academic and professional credentials, Prof. Sulaiman declared himself well-equipped to take on the state’s governorship role.
“With my wealth of experience, I am confident that I have the requisite skills to lead Kwara State to greater heights,” he asserted.
