Kwara Speaker Leads Govt Delegation to Gbajigbo Village, Assures Victims of Support After Boat Mishap

In a show of solidarity following the tragic boat mishap in Gbajigbo village, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, led a high-powered government delegation to express condolences to the victims, their families, and the wider community.

At the Emir of Kaiama’s palace, Danladi-Salihu conveyed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the incident, describing it as a moment of grief for the state.

“We are here on behalf of the Governor to register his heartfelt sadness over the unfortunate incident.

As a compassionate leader, the Governor decided to send this powerful delegation to Kaiama to commiserate with the Emir, the victims, and the people of Gbajigbo, and to obtain first-hand information about the boat mishap,” he stated.

During his visit, the Speaker emphasized the importance of safety measures for travelers on waterways, urging the community to consistently use life jackets and adhere to other safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.

“It is important to remind our people, especially sea travelers, that wearing life jackets and adhering to safety protocols are essential in preventing this kind of sad incident,” Danladi-Salihu added.

In Gbajigbo, the Speaker met with survivors and community leaders, including the village head, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman.

He announced a donation of N2 million to cover medical bills for the survivors and support the families of the deceased.

He further assured the community that the state government, through the State Emergency Management Agency, would provide additional support.

Additionally, he promised that the village’s primary health center and school would soon be refurbished.

The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar Bagidi Kiyaru IV, expressed gratitude to the Governor and the delegation for their swift response, praying for the safety of the officials and the entire community.

Also on the delegation were key government officials, including Hon. Saidu Baba, Hon. Abdullah Halidu Danbaba, and Hon. Muhammad Baba Salihu, among others.
