Kwara Police Arrest Suspected Ritualist in Ilorin

A 46-year-old man, Isiaka Adeniyi, has been apprehended by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly attempting to use a 10-year-old boy, Akeem Nurudeen, for ritual purposes. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM in the Abab Oke-Foma area of Ilorin, the state capital.

According to the police spokesperson, Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the command received a distress call reporting the attempted homicide. The call came from the Onidoko Police Post, stating that Adeniyi had lured young Akeem, who was hawking pepper, into a room under the guise of buying his goods. Once inside, Adeniyi allegedly covered the boy’s face with a cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife.

Fortunately, the quick response of vigilant community members thwarted the attack, saving the boy and leading to Adeniyi’s arrest. The suspect was immediately taken to the police station.

Preliminary investigations have commenced, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, praised the proactive efforts of the community in capturing the suspect and ensuring justice is served. He urged the public to remain calm and assured residents that the police would continue to prioritize their safety and security.
