The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and security readiness by training its personnel in unarmed combat and self-defence techniques.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, revealed that the intensive five-day training, which ran from February 10 to 14, 2025, at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin, focused on sharpening officers’ tactical response to security threats.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commandant Umar J.G. Mohammed emphasized the importance of self-defence skills in modern security operations. He noted that officers often encounter situations where firearms may not be necessary or available, making hand-to-hand combat proficiency essential.
“This training is not just about physical readiness but also about mental alertness and discipline. Officers must be able to respond swiftly and effectively to any confrontation while upholding professionalism,” he said.
He assured that the NSCDC would continue to prioritize capacity building for its personnel to enhance their ability to safeguard lives and property.
Certificates were presented to the participants in recognition of their dedication to professional development and operational excellence.
