Kwara Boosts Basic Education with Free Learning Materials, Sports Kits

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to basic education by launching the distribution of multimillion-naira instructional materials and sports kits for primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The initiative, flagged off on Thursday, saw the distribution of 73,365 textbooks covering English, Mathematics, Computer Studies, and other core subjects; 12,780 assorted primary school library books; 100 special education materials; 260 sets of Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education (ECCDE) plastic chairs and tables; 3,931 sports equipment; 344 sets of agricultural tools; and 78 educational tablets (Maga Tab X).

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, described the programme as part of ongoing efforts to enhance learning and ease financial burdens on parents.

“The administration is committed to ensuring that out-of-school children become a thing of the past. Providing free instructional materials is one way we are tackling this challenge, especially in light of rising costs,” she said.

Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted other interventions in the education sector, including the recruitment and promotion of teachers, as well as infrastructural upgrades in schools.

Chairman of the Kwara House Committee on Education, Hon. Muhammed Boriya Salihu, commended the Governor for consistently prioritizing education.

“This is another historic moment for the development of basic education in Kwara. The era of neglect is behind us, and we can see significant progress across various sectors,” Boriya stated.

The Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, emphasized that the initiative would enhance both academic and extracurricular activities.

“These materials will undoubtedly improve learning conditions and promote sports participation among pupils. Education remains the bedrock of development, and we are committed to shaping future leaders who will drive positive change,” Adaramaja said.

The event was attended by top government officials, traditional chiefs, education stakeholders, and political leaders, all reaffirming their support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the education sector in the state.
