Nigeria President Bola Tinubu has taken another significant step towards balancing and promoting development in Nigeria’s North-Central region by signing a bill into law establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC).

The approval is expected to transform the region, which has been plagued by insecurity problems, including farmer/herder clashes, banditry, and kidnapping, as well as flood disasters.

This was announced by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, today in the Senate chamber.

The NCDC is designed to tackle these challenges and promote economic growth, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the region.

Although details of the bill are still emerging, it’s clear that the establishment of the NCDC is a major milestone in the government’s efforts to address the region’s developmental challenges.

It’s worth noting that President Tinubu has already demonstrated his commitment to regional development by signing bills to establish similar commissions in other parts of the country, including the North-West and South-East.

The North-West Development Commission, for example, aims to facilitate the reconstruction of roads, houses, and business premises destroyed by crisis, as well as tackle poverty, literacy, and ecological problems.

The signing of the NCDC bill is a welcome development, and many are hoping that it will mark the beginning of a new era of growth and prosperity in the North-Central region.

As the region begins to implement the commission’s plans, it will be interesting to see how the NCDC addresses the unique challenges facing the area and promotes sustainable development
