The government’s commitment to a smooth retirement process for civil servants has been reiterated by Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack OON, mni, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
Mrs. Walson-Jack highlighted the government’s dedication to assisting federal employees during their careers and into retirement while speaking at the 2nd Edition of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) Executive Prospective Retirees Conference.
According to her, the program demonstrates the government’s dedication to making sure civil servants continue to be effective, capable, and ready for satisfying lives beyond public service.
Within two years of retirement, civil servants on Salary Grade Levels 14–17 were the focus of the conference, which was organized in cooperation with the JFK Abiona Consultancy Limited and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.The initiative’s alignment with Pillar Six of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP 25), which focuses on improved staff welfare, was emphasized by Mrs. Walson-Jack.
She described a number of pre-retirement initiatives, including the Agripreneurship Program, Business Start-Up, and Entrepreneurship Programs, that are intended to prepare civil servants for life after service.
Mrs. Walson-Jack emphasized the value of proactive retirement planning, going over topics such as financial planning, health and wellness, benefit understanding, and the “golden rules of retirement.”
The HCSF emphasized that “Retirement is not an end, but a new beginning filled with opportunities” and urged retirees to stay active through volunteering, consulting, entrepreneurship, and other worthwhile endeavors.
She also emphasized government programs that assist retirees, such as reintegration training, cooperative societies, health insurance, and affordable housing.
The conference’s function within the Federal Civil Service Entrepreneurship Program, which provides retirees with necessary skills for a seamless transition, was highlighted by Mrs. Oyekunle Patience Nwakuso, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, in the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.The conference, she continued, covers subjects like strategic business plan development, blockchain technology, and self-management.
The Director of Occupational Health and Safety, Dr. Comfort Adeosun, praised the HCSF’s work in putting in place strong welfare programs for civil servants in service as well as those who are retiring.
The practicality of retirement, comprehending the technology of the blockchain economy, financial mastery in retirement, and financial intelligence in retirement were the main topics of discussion at the one-day retiree workshop.
There are thirty (30) reasons why people fail in retirement and how to prevent it, while others are welcoming retirement with optimism and its benefits. FelaDurotoye, Toobore Olumoye, Njideka Adaego Ononuju, and Alex Enebeli were among the speakers at the event.
