The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, has praised teachers for their invaluable contributions in shaping the future of society. She has recognized them as the cornerstone of a prosperous and forward-thinking society.

During the weekend in Abuja, at the 2024 World Teacher’s Day Commemoration and President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award Ceremony, Mrs. Walson-Jack made this statement in a goodwill speech with the theme, Valuing Teachers Voices: Towards a new Social Contract for Education.

The President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award was included in the program, which the HCSF applauded. According to the HCSF, this is a worthy tribute to the extraordinary work that educators, administrators, and schools around the country have put into giving Nigerian children access to high-quality education.

According to the HCSF, recognizing and rewarding exceptional teaching is essential because it pushes teachers to go above and beyond the call of duty, establishes success standards, and demonstrates the enormous worth that education is placed on.

According to her, “teachers are empowered to continue shaping lives with passion and innovation when they are appreciated and acknowledged for their hard work, creativity, and commitment.”

The HCSF made a call to action for people and organizations in the public and private sectors to establish and maintain local, state, and federal awards for exceptional teaching. She went on to say that these awards ought to recognize exceptional work, creative approaches, and significant mentoring. She gave her word that the awards would inspire individual educators and establish national benchmarks for professional excellence.

Additionally, Mrs. Walson-Jack suggested that honoring and rewarding teachers for their achievements ought to be a continuous national priority, rather than just occurring on Teachers’ Commemoration Day. The future of our wonderful country is in the hands of our teachers, so let us continue to honor, value, and invest in them, she said.

Furthermore, Walson-Jack offered advice that the awards ought to be backed by material rewards and chances for professional growth in order to guarantee that the top teachers are prepared to take on the constantly changing demands of the contemporary classroom.

While acknowledging the difficulties teachers face in carrying out their responsibilities, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was represented at the event by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, gave assurances that the administration would spare no effort to guarantee teachers’ welfare in particular and the achievement of high-quality education in the nation.

The awarding of cars as part of the Presidential Awards to the top educators, administrators, and educational institutions by the federal government in various categories was the event’s high point.

The governors of Kano, Kebbi, Borno, Oyo, Benue, and Enugu states, who also received awards from the National Union of Teachers (NUT) for their enormous contributions to the advancement of education and the welfare of teachers in their respective states, were among the dignitaries present at the event.
