Gas Cooker Sparks Fire in Ilorin, Destroys Seven Rooms in Storey Building

A fire outbreak at No. 90 Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu, Ilorin, on Wednesday afternoon left seven rooms in ruins, with firefighters battling to save the rest of the building.

The Kwara State Fire Service received the distress call at exactly 1:53 p.m. and swiftly responded to the scene, where flames had already engulfed multiple rooms in the storey building. Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading further, saving 13 out of the 20 rooms.

Preliminary investigations linked the cause of the inferno to an unattended gas cooker. Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, stressed the importance of fire safety measures to prevent similar disasters.

“We urge residents to be extra cautious, especially with gas cookers and other flammable materials. A moment of carelessness can lead to irreparable loss,” he said.

The Kwara State Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response and fire prevention awareness campaigns.
