The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 44 suspected internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo boys,” in different parts of Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to a statement by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, the suspects were apprehended on Friday, September 6, 2024, in areas such as Sango, Kulende, Taxaco, and Harmony Estate. Their arrests followed credible intelligence linking them to online fraud.
Recovered items during the raid include six luxury cars, laptops, smartphones, and charms, which the EFCC believes were used in their fraudulent schemes.
This operation comes just two days after the EFCC arrested another 56 suspected fraudsters in a separate operation. The anti-graft agency emphasized that the suspects would be charged to court after thorough investigations are completed.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling the rising threat of cybercrime across the country.
