PERFORMS SEIZURES IN 2023 VALUED AT MORE THAN $5 BILLION NAIRA

46 promoted officers in Zone “C” of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit have been decorated.

In the fiscal year 2023, the Zone also reported seizures totaling N5,351,826,390.00, or five billion, three hundred and fifty-one million, eight hundred and twenty-six thousand, three hundred and ninety naira (only in total DPV).

The following officers received promotions: five (5) from Superintendent of Customs (SC) to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC); three (3) from Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) to SC; and three (3) from Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) to Assistant Comptroller (AC).

In addition, there are eight (8) officers from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to IC, six (6) from ASC II to ASC I, seventeen (17) from IC to ASC II, two (2) officers from Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASC I) to DSC, and one (1) individual from Customs Area I (CA I) to AIC.

Among those promoted was Jerry ATTAH, the Zone’s Public Relations Officer, who advanced from Superintendent of Customs (SC) to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC).

While congratulating the promoted officers on Wednesday, Zone “C” Comptroller Kayode Kolade described the seizures as the result of his men and officers’ hard work, resilience, dedication to duty, and commitment.

He said the items seized included pangolin scales, foreign parboiled rice, cannabis sativa (also known as Indian hemp), counterfeit pharmaceutical products, tramadol, used vehicles, used tyres, used clothing, and explosive raw materials.

The Comptroller also stated that as a result of his officers’ interventions in monitoring the activities of fraudulent agents at seaports, a large amount of previously lost revenue has been recovered to the tune of One Hundred and Fifty Two Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Fourteen Naira (N152,492,214.00) only.

He charged the promoted officers with continuing to live above board and justifying the Service’s confidence in them.

He also thanked the Comptroller-General, Wale Adeniyi MFR dsm fnipr psc (+), for his ongoing support and fatherly disposition, which has resulted in officer promotions and eased officer activities.

He stated, “Let me take this opportunity to thank the Comptroller-General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi MFR, and his management team through the Board of the NCS for this honor, and to pledge our determination and zeal to perform even better as we assume our new positions.

“A new rank comes with new and increased responsibility, and we must fulfill our mandate.

Change is one thing that never goes away in life. Our roster will be altered as a result of the recent promotion, and we will need to demonstrate our value when assigned to tasks. To reach the N5.7 trillion goal set by the Service, we must perform better this year, and I think we can succeed.
