A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara South Senatorial District, Engineer Opeyemi Olabanji, has cautioned youths in the region against being used by politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olabanji issued the warning on Thursday while hosting the APC youth wing from Irepodun Local Government Area (LGA) at his Ijan-Otun residence during their yuletide visit. He emphasized that it was premature for any politician to exploit the youths for political gain.
According to the APC stalwart, early political campaigns under the guise of activism could undermine the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is focused on delivering people-centered programs.
“It is too early for anyone to be talking about where the APC in the state has zoned its governorship candidate for the 2027 elections,” Olabanji said. “The much-talked-about ‘Kwara South for Kwara North’ zoning arrangement should not dominate political discussions now. We are the party in power, and we must avoid distractions to governance. Let us leave everything in God’s hands—anything can still happen.”
The Irepodun APC youth leaders, led by the LGA youth leader, Mr. Femi Alter, included representatives from all 11 wards: Oro 1, Oro 2, Ajase 1, Ajase 2, Esie/Ijan, Omu-Aran 1, Omu-Aran 2, Omu-Aran 3, Oko, Arandun, and Ipetu-Rore-Aran Orin.
Olabanji advised the youths not to commit to any political arrangements prematurely, noting that the Governor, as the party’s leader in the state, had not endorsed any zoning plan. He urged them to remain steadfast and focused on the party’s ideology.
“Don’t give your word to any politician now. We still have two solid years before the elections. The Governor is preoccupied with fixing the state and delivering democratic dividends. Stay focused and solid in your ideology,” Olabanji added.
In response, Mr. Femi Alter thanked Olabanji for his guidance and pledged that the youths would remain united and resist undue political influence. “Your words of caution and encouragement will guide us. We will build a solid bloc that cannot be infiltrated by inordinate politicians,” he assured.
