Standards Organisation of Nigeria Awards MANCAP Certification to HMA Medical Limited (Syringe & Needle Plant) three other Companies
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to four companies in Kwara State to enhance product standardization.
The recipients are HMA Nigeria Limited, Lubcon Limited, B&Q Ventures, and Muhrima Bildej Nigeria Limited.
At the presentation held at SON’s Ilorin office, Director General Ifeanyi Okeke, represented by Director of Human Resources Engr. Timothy Abner, emphasized that the certification process is rigorous and based on scientific evaluation to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Abner highlighted that the MANCAP certification is mandated by SON’s act, which requires all products manufactured in Nigeria to meet minimum standard requirements.
He explained that consistent adherence to these standards is crucial for certification, ensuring products are reliable and safe for consumers.
“If all our products met these basic standards, it would boost consumer confidence, reducing the uncertainty of product performance,” he said. “For manufacturers, especially SMEs, achieving this certification raises their credibility and ensures they meet essential quality benchmarks.”
Abner also stressed the importance of continuous monitoring by SON to maintain standards post-certification. The process involves factory inspections and product testing in laboratories to verify compliance.
He urged the public to always check for MANCAP certification when purchasing products, as it guarantees quality and provides a recourse through SON in case of issues.
Kwara State Coordinator of SON, Ayeni Feyisayo, likened the MANCAP presentation to a graduation ceremony for companies meeting quality and safety standards.
He encouraged more companies to submit their products for certification, noting a decline in participation due to the rigorous testing process.
“We aim to increase the percentage of certified products by encouraging companies to appreciate the benefits of subjecting their products to quality checks,” Feyisayo stated. “Certification ensures that products are not just market-ready but meet excellence and safety standards.”
Feyisayo also mentioned that there are penalties for companies that fail to pursue certification, akin to students refusing to graduate. “Enforcement is a last resort, following efforts to engage and educate companies on the importance of certification”.
