NSCDC Kwara Engages Stakeholders to Curb Vandalism, Protect Public Infrastructure

To address the persistent threat of vandalism in Kwara State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called for stronger collaboration among key stakeholders to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure.

At a strategic meeting held at the Ade Abolurin Hall, NSCDC’s Kwara State Command engaged government officials, community leaders, industry stakeholders, and the Chairman of the Scrap Association to map out proactive solutions against the rising incidents of vandalism, which pose economic and security risks.

Speaking at the event, the State Commandant, Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, represented by DCC Olushola Davies, described vandalism as a growing challenge that undermines government efforts in infrastructure development. He stressed that a combination of intelligence gathering, community participation, and strict enforcement is crucial to tackling the menace.

“We cannot afford to treat vandalism with levity. It affects not just the economy but also national security. Protecting public infrastructure is a collective responsibility, and we must work together to put an end to this criminal act,” he stated.

The Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit, ACC Awoyale Olusoji, reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical assets, including oil pipelines, electricity installations, water reservoirs, and railway lines. He warned that vandals would face the full weight of the law, emphasizing that security agencies would intensify efforts to curb their activities.

“As the lead agency in protecting critical infrastructure, the NSCDC remains resolute in its mandate to apprehend those attempting to sabotage the nation’s development,” Olusoji said.

Stakeholders at the meeting pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, while community leaders stressed the need for sensitization programs to educate residents on the dangers of vandalism and the importance of protecting public assets.
