Kaduna Journalist robbed, his phones stolen, begs for protection

The story is everywhere in kaduna state council of Nigerian Union of journalist (NUJ), platform, that the kaduna based multiple award winning investigative journalist, Idibia Gabriel has been robbed.

His two cell phones were stolen during the sad incident that occurred last Sunday night of 26th January 2025, in which the two Tecno phone working tools were picked from his room in U/Boro, in Sabon Tasha, Chikun LGA area of kaduna town.

According to the Journalist working with the eldest popular national newspaper, Daily Times, Nigeria, and several online media, the two phones were stolen from his resident in the midnight by suspected criminals yet to be identified.

According to him, due to irregular power supply, the two phones were plogged for charging in his parlour in anticipation for restoration of power when the incident occurred.

“I actually came back late into the house, fenced with 7 flats tenants, open the main gate, enter and lock it back, open his room and lock, and went to my room and sleep.

“When I wake up in the morning from my bedroom, surprisingly I could no longer find the two phones in plugged parlour where i put them for electric charge”, he lamented.

He said that after searching through his parlour where the phones were plugged, and his bedroom, severally, and could not found the phones, he decided to open the parlour window cotton and discovered that the iron window mosquito net was torned open one-sided, confirming to him that some phones thieves who are syndicates have stolen them.

“He also explained that he immediately dress up and went to kaduna town without taken bath, to ensure everything necessary are done to prevent any eventually.
“I went to mtn office and did welcome back, went to kaduna central market and bought a phone, later to Etisalat office for well come back”, he said in sympathetic manner.

Recalled that Mr. Gabriel Idibia, was attacked and robbed, and his two phones earlier collect. He however expressed happinness to God almighty for securing and protecting his life in the face of the attacked and calamities.

He reported the incident to police in Sabon Tasha on Saturday, promising to keep watch on the hoodlums in case of any other attempt to come back and enter trap, his going to set up for them. Even though many advised him to relocate from the area, he said.

The kaduna police command spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan, who witnessed twice of the arrest and detention of the Journalist and his prison remand, could not respond when contacted twice for further notification ,as usual.
