NSCDC Reunites Abducted Kogi Student with Family, Parades Suspected Kidnapper in Kwara

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reunited a 400-level student of Kogi State University, Anyigba, Muhammed Fauziyah, with her family.

The Command also paraded a suspected kidnapper, Abu Umar, accused of abducting a woman and her two sons in Kwara State.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Ayoola Michael Shola, the development was disclosed to newsmen in Ilorin on Monday.

While addressing journalists at the Command headquarters in Ilorin, the State Commandant, Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, explained that investigations revealed that Fauziyah was abducted outside Kogi State University, Anyigba. The student, however, could not recall how she ended up in Ilorin.

“Fauziyah was found wandering in the Egbejila area of Ilorin when concerned neighbors alerted community leaders, who then handed her over to the NSCDC,” Dr. Umar stated. “Upon receiving the victim, we launched an investigation and established that she had been abducted in Kogi State but somehow got stranded in Ilorin.”

Fauziyah has since been reunited with her uncle, Mallam Salihu Aliu, who expressed gratitude to the NSCDC for their swift intervention.

In another development, the Command paraded Abu Umar, a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate, for allegedly abducting a mother, Isiaka Halimah, and her two sons, Kabir and Hassan Isiaka, on November 7, 2024, in the Gidanrogo area of Ajase-Ipo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Dr. Umar disclosed that the suspect, who had previously worked for the victims’ family, was tracked and arrested after the kidnappers used his phone number to contact the family for ransom.

“The suspect is currently assisting the NSCDC in our efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large and to secure the release of the victims,” Dr. Umar added.

Reiterating the Command’s commitment to fighting crime, Dr. Umar assured residents of Kwara State of the Corps’ resolve to maintain peace and security.
