The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has introduced the Citizen Values Brigade (CVB), a youth-focused initiative aimed at fostering leadership skills, civic responsibility, and national values among young Nigerians.
The program, officially launched in Abuja, was described by NOA Director, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, as a groundbreaking platform designed to prepare youths for nation-building and societal transformation.
“This initiative is not just another training session; it is a movement—a call to action for each of us to embrace our roles as custodians of national values, champions of leadership, and agents of positive change,” Mr. Issa-Onilu said.
He highlighted the crucial role of young Nigerians in addressing the country’s challenges, urging participants to embrace values such as unity, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
“Today, you will not only learn principles and skills but also ignite a sense of pride and responsibility that will enable you to contribute meaningfully to your communities and our great nation,” he added.
Kwara State Highlights Values for Leadership
In Kwara State, the program gained further momentum during a sensitization event led by the NOA State Director, Mr. Dare AbdulGaniyu. He emphasized seven pillars critical to governance, including equality, democracy, entrepreneurship, peace, inclusivity, justice, and meritocracy.
He also introduced the “Citizen Code,” a framework promoting discipline, patriotism, family values, and environmental consciousness.
“Let us build a Nigeria united in purpose, strong in values, and committed to the well-being of every citizen,” Mr. AbdulGaniyu urged participants.
Debate Competition Engages Youths
As part of the initiative, a debate competition titled “Seven for Seven: Striking a Balance Between Government Policies and Citizens’ Patriotism” was organized between Kwara State Polytechnic and the University of Ilorin.
The University of Ilorin emerged victorious, scoring 186 points and winning a ₦5 million prize. Kwara State Polytechnic scored 168 points and received ₦2 million.
Dr. Felicia Olabisi Awolola, Deputy Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of integrating the “Citizen Code” into student life.
“The Citizen Code will not only expose people to their rights but also highlight their responsibilities. I am confident our students will imbibe these values,” she said.
The Citizen Values Brigade continues to gain recognition nationwide, empowering young Nigerians to lead with integrity, service, and excellence while fostering a values-driven society.
