The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Victor Olaiya, has held a crucial meeting with representatives of various transport unions following their strike action over the recent hike in petrol prices.

The strike, which began on September 5, 2024, prompted the dialogue at the command headquarters on September 6, 2024.

In a statement released by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Commissioner met with leaders from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), and the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN).

During the meeting, CP Olaiya, alongside the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Muyideen, urged the unions to maintain peace, stressing Kwara State’s reputation as a peaceful state.

“Kwara State is known for its harmonious, peace-loving nature,” Olaiya said, assuring the unions that the Federal Government is working to address the economic challenges affecting Nigerians.

The Commissioner also encouraged the unions to voice their concerns through their chairmen, promising that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is committed to supporting their welfare and resolving any issues.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to peace and security in the state.
