N1.5 Billions Worth As CGC Adeniyi Personally Addressed Third ‘World Press Briefing’ In One Month

In what could be described as a World Press Conference, Comptroller General of Customs, CGC, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR has once addressed a larger spectrum of Media, where seized items were on display.

The wider press briefing, held at the Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at few minutes past hour of 5 pm however is coming after that of Tincan Port Customs Command, Lagos on a Friday before Sallah, in June; that of PHC 2 Onne, Rivers State on Monday, July 1, 2024.

That of the Lagos Airport on Wednesday, having larger presence of Security Agencies that joined Customs to beef up security/safety had arms, ammunition, Military Wares/gears and drone on display.

The total seizures however come with monetary worth of N1.5 Billions while they were imported from Turkey.

It is to be noted that CGC Adeniyi has promised to flush out these bad elements importing dangerous things into our nation, either from the Maritime domain, Aviation hub or, the Land Borders so such wouldn’t be allowed into Hinterlands and Landlocked area of Nigeria.

At the Tincan briefing where Adeniyi disclosed that the syndicates into arms, ammunition and drugs importations into Nigeria shall be fished out and dealt with accordingly; their accomplices from amongst the Customs officers, Importers and Clearing Agents also would be severally dealt with.

The Customs had MMA (Cargo) and International Airport Commands now, since 2019. The incumbent Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, ACG Yusuf was also on hand in company with CGC Adeniyi.

The two Customs Area Controllers, Comptroller Adebola Adegbite (Murtala Muhammed International) and Comptroller Awe (Murtala Muhammed Airport) – Cargo Commands were both on ground along wit Comptroller Oladeji of Federal Operations Unit, Zone A.

In same manner then, he warned the Terminal and Bonded Ware house Operators as well as Journalists who might be involved with such syndicates to desist or else expect to be exposed, shamed and purnished.

He however announced there also then, that through the systems, these ‘dare devils’ are being monitored from Overseas countries and across our nation, Nigeria.

Adeniyi just clocked one year in office as CG Customs by Wednesday, June 19, 2024 having been announced on Monday, June 19, 2023 by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR administration.

He was announced by then Special Adviser to the President on Media, Publicity and Strategy, Dr. Henry Dele Alake along with present Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D and all the Service Chiefs in Nigerian Military Achitexture.

Within that space of one year, Adeniyi who hit the ground running has brought in lots of reforms, sanitation to the Customs Service that is more professionalized now.

Welfare of the officers and men in NCS has also improved the more while relationship wit the Media Practitioners in that last one year has also been more of mutual respectability even more than in past twenty years.
