EDUN TO CHAIR PUBLIC HEARING ON NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE IN SOUTH-WEST

Under the visionary direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government of Nigeria has scheduled six zonal public hearings for the purpose of reviewing the National Minimum Wage across the nation.

The following regions are set to host these hearings: North-East (Yola), North-West (Kano), North-Central (Abuja), South-South (Uyo), South-East (Enugu), and South-West (Lagos).

The Honorable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, will preside over the South-West Zonal Public Hearing, which will take place on March 7, 2024, at the LTV Blue Roof Arena, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi Ikeja, Lagos.

Gathering information and suggestions for a just and long-lasting minimum wage policy that takes into account the involvement and contributions of different regional stakeholders is the goal of this session.

Representatives of the state government, such as Governor Adeleke Ademola of Osun State; Omo-Lamai Grace of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Muhammad Nura of the Nigeria Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, who represent employers; and representatives of organized labor, such as Adeyanju Adewale (NLC) and Shuaibu Afusatu (TUC), in addition to the honorable Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Onyejeocha Nkeiruka, are among the distinguished panelists who speak alongside Mr. Edun.

This occasion represents a critical milestone in securing a just and long-lasting national minimum wage that reflects our aspirations and economic realities. A policy that strikes a balance between the welfare of employees and the state of the national economy is open to input from stakeholders.
