Festus Keyamo SAN CON FCIarb (UK), the honorable minister of aviation and aerospace development, has arrived in Marrakesh, Morocco, for the 2024 International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Congress. This is a stunning show of solidarity and support for the unions in the Nigerian aviation and transport sectors. The Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the crucial role that transportation workers play in stabilizing the aviation industry and the economy at large is demonstrated by his presence as a special guest.

The International Transport Federation Congress, one of the biggest international assemblies of transport unions, unites delegates from more than 150 nations to deliberate on important matters, exchange optimal methodologies, and devise plans to promote labor rights in diverse transport domains. The largest and most influential labor union in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), was well-represented at the function along with other Nigerian transport unions.

During his speech at the Congress, the Honorable Minister praised the aviation industry’s steadfast dedication, acknowledging the vital role that these workers play in the industry’s ongoing expansion, stability, and safety in Nigeria. The commitment and tenacity of our workforce are essential to the prosperity of our aviation sector. Our mission to advance the sector requires our support and active participation as partners. I am proof of that commitment here in Marrakesh,” Keyamo stated.

The Federal Government’s continuous efforts to promote closer partnerships between industry players, labor unions, and the government in tackling important issues like worker welfare, infrastructure development, and policy reforms that help the transportation sector are also indicated by the Minister’s attendance at the ITF Congress.

The Honourable Minister not only backed NUATE and other transport unions, but also took advantage of the occasion to interact with international leaders and specialists in the transportation and aviation domains, presenting Nigeria’s vision for an inventive and sustainable aviation ecosystem. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing working conditions, streamlining processes, and making sure Nigeria’s aviation sector develops in accordance with international norms.
